At Ascension St Vincent’s we use the recommendations of the USPSTF (United States Preventive Services Task Force) to determine the preventative services needed for our patients. This is a national independent panel of experts in primary care and prevention that reviews clinical research to assess the value of preventive services. These recommendations are categorized by age and gender and are given grades according to how strongly they are supported by clinical research.

  • Grade A and Grade B services are recommended.
  • Grade C are not routinely recommended, but may be appropriate for some people.
  • Grade D services are NOT recommended because possible harms are deemed to outweigh benefits.

As a reminder these guidelines are for asymptomatic patients.  Symptomatic patients would be evaluated as appropriate. Patient identified at increased risk may need a different screening scheduled as determined by their treating physician.
